Athletics and Wellness Center

The Athletics and Wellness Center, which opened during the fall of 1999, focuses on the promotion of recreation and good health for the greater Richmond area as well as the campus community. The facility features an indoor running track, a cardio and strength training room, a group fitness studio, an indoor climbing wall, four indoor tennis courts, two racquetball courts, a 25-meter by six-lane pool, and a performance gymnasium with seating for 1,800 to host athletic events.

A complete renovation of 70,000 square feet of Trueblood Fieldhouse (built in 1923), the Athletics and Wellness Center added 40,000 square feet of classrooms and offices.

In step with the new facility is the further development of Earlham's Wellness Program. Wellness Program Director Shanna Nolan and Assistant Director of Wellness Programs Cathryn Craig, coordinate programs including group fitness classes, water fitness, yoga, massage, fitness assessments and personal training. They also conduct workshops on topics including nutrition and stress management.

There were two flights during the event with Wertman’s best toss of 52’2½” being fifth in the opening group. The mark ended up as the 10th best performance overall, but was one position shy of the ninth qualifying spot in the finals.

Adrian Kibiersza of Aurora University, who didn’t record a distance in three attempts during the finals, had a throw of 52’4¾” during the preliminary round to advance as he claimed the ninth spot just ahead of Wertman. John Schantzen of St. Olaf College had a throw of 57’0” to win the event.
