OBERLIN, Ohio — The Earlham College women’s basketball team had two players in double figures on Saturday as the Quakers fell 57-51 in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest at Oberlin College.
Whitney Sparkman led the Quakers with 14 points, while
Nikki Darrett topped the squad in nearly everything else.
Darrett had 13 points to go with 12 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
The Quakers held an early 7-5 advantage after Darrett scored with 14:20 left in the opening period. Oberlin (4-15, 3-7) scored five straight to go in front 10-7 before Sparkman capped a 9-0 Earlham run to make it 16-10 with 10:42 left.
Earlham had its largest margin of the first half at 22-12 when Sparkman scored at 7:37. The Quakers eventually led 28-22 at intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers worked their way to a 34-22 advantage when
Jessica Wooden scored with 18:35 remaining in the game. Oberlin responded with a 16-4 run to tie the contest at 38-38 with 14:14 left to play.
Sparkman gave the Quakers what turned out to be their final lead when she scored at 11:38 to make it 43-41.
The Yeowomen hit a 3-pointer at 11:08 to take the lead for good at 44-43. From that point, the Quakers could only get to within one point with the last time coming at 2:18 when
Kate Franks scored to make it 52-51.
Oberlin held the Quakers scoreless as the Yeowomen score the final five point of the game.
Earlham (2-17, 1-9) visits
Allegheny College on Friday. The NCAC contest begins at 6 p.m.
