RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College baseball team hosts Wittenberg University in a single non-conference game at Sadler Stadium on Wednesday. First pitched is slated for 4 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Wittenberg. The Quakers stand at an even 4-4 on the season after sweeping Wilmington College in a three-game series last weekend. The Tigers are 2-6 overall after falling to the University of Mount Union in a doubleheader on Sunday.
The Coaches: Steve Sakosits is in his seventh season leading the Earlham baseball program. A coach of 38 All-HCAC honorees, Sakosits is the program's all-time leader in career victories and has led the Quakers to the HCAC Tournament the past two seasons. Brian McGee is in his first season as Wittenberg's head baseball coach.
Hitters to Watch: Senior Eric Elkus leads the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) in RBIs with 24. The Edgewood, Kentucky, native is tied with freshman Danny Dopp for most team hits with 14. Freshman Isaiah Shake has a team-high five doubles to go along with a .481 batting average. Adam Mays leads Wittenberg with a .389 batting average and three doubles.
Pitchers to Watch: Sophomore Walter Talcott, who started his first game of the season against Wilmington on Saturday, has a perfect ERA in 5.2 innings pitched to go along with nine strikeouts. Freshman Jordan Christian, who relieved Talcott and earned his first collegiate win this past weekend, has a 4.38 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched. Jace Barga leads Wittenberg with a 2.19 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched.
