BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Earlham College men's basketball team dropped a narrow 81-78 decsion at Bluffton University on Wednesday night.
Play in the first half was tight as the lead changed hands numerous times. Bluffton held a narrow advantage at the intermission, 40-38. In the first period of play the Quakers shot 50% (16-32) from the field and held Bluffton to 39.5% (15-38) shooting.
The game was close all the way to the final buzzer as EC never trailed by more than seven. A layup by Blake Bonin with five seconds left drew Earlham within two points, 80-78, and the Quakers were forced to foul. Bluffton made one of two free throws and EC's attempt to tie the game was unsuccessful.
Austin Doliboa led the way for EC with 23 points in 27 minutes off the bench. Doliboa went 10-14 from the field and grabbed six rebounds. Darrell Hutchison Jr. added 17 points and four boards. For the game Earlham shot 52.5% (32-61) from the field. Bluffton was led by Aaron Rich's 16 points.
Earlham fell to 2-5, 0-2 HCAC. Bluffton moved to 2-4, 1-1 HCAC. The Quakers will be back in action on Saturday, December 9 at Manchester. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
