THE SHORT STORY: Earlham College fired a 318 (+30) in Saturday's first round of The Nye Intercollegiate men's golf tournament, and returned to the clubhouse tied for ninth among 11 teams in the event. The Quakers are among six teams between fifth and 10th place on the leaderboard separated by a total of 10 shots.

OFF THE TEE

  • Earlham placed two golfers among the top 20 in Saturday's first round. Garrett Schuler and Graham Sherard were both tied for 16th on the individual leaderboard after carding a five-over 77 after the first 18 holes. Denison's Ben Scherman was atop the leaderboard with an even-par 72.
  • Jared Stone was also in the top-half of the field with a 78 (+6), good enough to be tied for 26th overall.
  • The Quakers tied with Mount Union on the team leaderboard with a 318 (+30), and were four strokes back of the host squad from the College of Wooster. Denison leads the field with a 294 (+6).
