RICHMOND, Ind. - The Earlham College men's soccer team will open Heartland Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a 3:30 p.m. game against Bluffton University at the Sears Complex on Saturday.
The Teams: Earlham and Bluffton. The Quakers are 4-4 after losing to Otterbein 3-0 at home on Saturday. The Beavers are 3-6 after losing at the hands of The College of Wooster on Wednesday.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his second season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015James Kusak is Bluffton's new head coach and spent the last two years as Spalding University's assistant coach.
The Players: Senior Bret Marshall leads the Quakers with three goals this season. Juniors Nicholas Dey and Ismail Lapp-Kamara and freshman Micah Roland have each scored goals for Earlham. Grant Stutzman leads the Beavers with four goals and eight points.
Recent History: Earlham has not lost to Bluffton since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The Quakers have beaten the Beavers by a score of 1-0 the last three seasons.
