RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's soccer concludes non-conference play for the 2017 season when the Quakers travel to Wittenberg University on Tuesday. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Wittenberg. The Quakers are still in search of their first win after falling at Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) member Otterbein University 4-1 last Saturday. The Tigers are 1-7-1 and coming off a 10-0 thrashing at the hands of Kenyon College last Saturday.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his third season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus, who led the Quakers to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament berth in 2015, served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015. Dwight Burress is in his second season as Wittenberg's head men's soccer coach after spending a decade coaching soccer at Capital University.
The Players: Seniors Vojislav Tatarevic and Nicholas Dey lead the Quakers' offense with two goals each this season while freshman Drew Fitzgibbon also scored against Oberlin College. Dey and junior Yuki Adams have both taken double-digit shots through seven games this season. Austin Lewis and Alberto Zaragoza have both scored two goals for Wittenberg.
Recent History: Earlham is 1-3 against Wittenberg since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season with the one win coming in a 2-0 triumph during the 2013-14 season. The Quakers and Tigers were conference foes as members of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) from 1989-2009.
