RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's soccer team travels to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest on Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Rose-Hulman. The Quakers are 1-8-0 overall on the season, but opened the conference season with a 3-1 win over Bluffton University. The Fightin' Engineers are 5-4-1 overall after a 1-0 loss at Transylvania University to open their HCAC slate on Saturday.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his third season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus, who led the Quakers to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament berth in 2015, served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015. Sean Helliwell is in his 10th season as Rose-Hulman's head men's soccer coach and has led the Engineers to six HCAC regular season titles in that span.
The Players: Seniors Vojislav Tatarevic and Nicholas Dey lead the Quakers' offense with seven points each while sophomore Micha Roland has scored two goals and freshman Drew Fitzgibbon one. Four Quakers have dished out one assist. Austin Webb leads the Engineers with eight points including three goals and two assists. Rose-Hulman's goalkeepers, Michael Lawrence and Carter Wright, allow under one goal per game.
HCAC Honors: Micah Roland is the reigning HCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a pair of goals in the Quakers 3-1 win over Bluffton on Saturday.
Recent History: Earlham is 2-7 against Rose-Hulman since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The Quakers have lose the last three goals including a 2-0 loss at home last season.
