CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Earlham College men's soccer team battled Mount St. Joseph University to a 1-1 tie in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) game on Saturday afternoon.
MSJ scored first as Seth Freppon took a pass from Justin Ives and beat Earlham goalkeeper, junior Nicola Manni, at the 32:20 mark of the first half. The Lions fired six shots in the first half compared to three for the Quakers, but Manni would only be beaten once.
Earlham turned up its offense in the second 45 minutes and its pressure paid off as sophomore Micah Roland scored his second goal of the season in the 55th minute. The Quakers would fire six shots in the second half compared to just one for the Lions, but 90 minutes could not decide the contest.
Neither of the two 10-minute overtime sessions yielded a goal despite Earlham earning a 5-3 shots edge in the overtime sessions.
Both teams combined for nine shots on goal in 110 minutes including five for Earlham and four for MSJ. Senior Nicholas Dey took five shots for the Quakers including two on goal.
Earlham stands at 1-1-1 in the HCAC hosts Defiance College at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
