RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's soccer team continues its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) slate on Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. game against Defiance College at Matlack-Messer Stadium.
The Teams: Earlham and Defiance. The Quakers are 1-1-1 in HCAC play after a 1-1 draw at Mount St. Joseph University (MSJ) on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets are 6-4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference play and recently fell 2-1 to first-place Transylvania University.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his third season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus, who led the Quakers to the HCAC Tournament berth in 2015, served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015.
The Players: Earlham has scored 10 goals from four different players this season. Seniors Nicholas Dey and Vojislav Tatarevic have both found the back of the net three times while sophomore Micah Roland, who scored the Quakers' goal at MSJ on Saturday, and freshman Drew Fitzgibbon have both scored twice. Christian Meister and Liam Hall have combined for nine goals for the Yellow Jacket offense. Hall has also dished out a team-high four assists.
Recent History: Earlham is 4-2-1 against Defiance since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The Yellow Jackets won the 2016 meeting, defeating the Quakers 2-1 on Oct. 12.
