LEXINGTON, Kentucky - Transylvania University converted five of its 10 shots on goal in a 5-0 win over the Earlham College men's soccer team in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Wednesday evening.
The Pioneers, who sit atop the HCAC with a game to play, scored two goals in the first 20 minutes as Charlie Wend and Jason Murillo found the back of the net in the 11th and 20th minutes respectively. Zach Hill would put the hosts up 3-0 with the last goal of the first half.
Leading 3-0 at the beginning of the second half, Riley Calhoon made it 4-0 Transylvania with his goal a minute into the second half. Garrett Dean put the game away with the Pioneers' fifth goal of the game at the 69:52 mark.
Earlham was outshot 20-9 in the contest and held to a single shot on goal, which was saved by Transylvania goalkeeper Drew Grisham. Junior Haki Johnson fired the shot on net along with another that was off target. Sophomore Micah Roland led Earlham's offensive efforts with three shots.
The Quakers dip to 3-12-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play. The loss eliminates Earlham from HCAC Tournament contention, and the Quakers will conclude their season with a 3:30 p.m. game at Manchester University on Saturday.
