THE SHORT STORY: Earlham College men's tennis picked up a victory at no. 3 doubles, but the Quakers were unable to gain another match on the courts and dropped a 7-0 decision to NCAA Division I-member Wright State, Sunday afternoon at the South Regency Tennis and Fitness Center.

The teams were playing with the Division I format where the winner of the best-of-three doubles matches gains a single point.

AGAINST THE RAIDERS

  • Aitor Zerdilas-Herrera and Joaquin Lerner teamed up to post a 7-6 (7-5) win over the Wright State tandem of Leighton Brandon and Will Morton at no. 3 doubles. However the Quakers' pairings of Aleksandr Sergeev and Sarthak Sharma (no. 1 doubles) and Nikos Trikkos-Psomas and Nicola Manni (no. 2 doubles) were unable to pick up wins over the Raiders to get the point in doubles play.
  • Moving into singles, Earlham took three of the six matches into three sets, but ended up falling in all six contests. Sergeev took WSU's Lorenzo Maccarini into three sets at no. 2 singles before dropping a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 decision, while Trikkos-Psomas captured the first set at no. 3 singles but fell in sets two and three in a 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 result.
  • Manni and Brandon played a marathon at no. 5 singles, before Brandon emerged victorious, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 12-10.
