Men’s cross country opens 2018 with win over Wilmington

RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham men's cross country opened its 2018 campaign in exciting fashion with a 26-31 win over visiting Wilmington College (Ohio), Friday night in the Quaker Bowl meet on Earlham's campus.

Wilmington freshman Evan Whitaker (16:34.6) had the top individual finish in the 5K event and the Ohio Quakers had three runners among the top five.

However Earlham placed all five scoring runners among the top eight to edge Wilmington in points. Sophomore Bineyam Tumbo (16:37.8) was the top Earlham finisher in second place, while Austin Burt (17:14.4) was the top Earlham first year runner in sixth place.

Earlham men's cross country returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 15, when the Quakers head to Shelbyville, Ind., to compete in the Manchester Blue River Memorial Park Invitational.
