Women's Basketball Drops Contest to Transylvania

RICHMOND, Ind. – Rachel Cox scored 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Transylvania University to a 73-54 victory over the Earlham College women's basketball team in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Wednesday evening.

The Quakers took an 11-7 lead early on consecutive offensive put backs from sophomore Ashlea Meadows. Another Meadows layup several minutes later put Earlham ahead 15-13 midway through the first quarter. 

The Pioneers ended the first quarter scoring three of the final four baskets and led 19-17 after the first quarter. 

Both teams traded baskets until a jumper from junior Mariah Flynn got the Quakers within a point (27-26) with four minutes to play in the first half. 

Transylvania ended the first half on an 11-1 run and scored the first two baskets of the second half to extend their lead to 15 points and put the game out of reach.

Freshman Shannon Pittman led Earlham with 12 points while Meadows added a career-high 10 points. Senior Hannah Franklin tallied nine points and six assists.

Celia Kline scored 16 points to go along with Cox's 26 points for the Pioneers. 

Earlham hosts Hanover College at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
