RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College first year Leilah Hicks earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending February 11, after her performance at Saturday's DePauw University Indoor Invitational.
Hicks posted a personal best time of 8.31 seconds in the 60m dash, shaving .18 seconds off her previous PR time.
In the 200m dash, Hicks finished second with a time of 26.40 seconds, setting a new top time in the HCAC this season.
"Leilah had an inspiring day at DePauw. Her efforts in the 60m dash and the 200m really energized her teammates and coaches," said Rob Hewitt, Earlham College co-head track and field coach. "Her 26.40 effort in the 200m - which is her strongest event- was a three-tenths of a second improvement on her PR and the direct result of the hard work she's put in at practice to improve her push out of the blocks. We had a strong sense she was going to pop a stong 200m following her big 60m PR's earlier in the day."
Hicks is the second Earlham women's track and field performer to earn HCAC weekly honors this season; first year Chloe Lamenzo was named HCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week last Monday.
Earlham track and field will be back in Anderson, Ind., this weekend to compete in the 2018 HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Anderson University.
