RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College cross country team started its 2016 season off with a victory as the women placed first at the fourth annual Indiana University East Wed Wolf Rumble on Friday evening.
The Quaker women finished second, third and fifth en route to a team score of 25 points. IU-East finished second with 44 team points.
Individually, sophomore Rachel Wilkins finished runner-up in her first collegiate cross country race (three-kilometer) with a time of 12:11.3. Senior Kellan Steele tallied a third-place finish at 12:27.8 while sophomore Victoria Trezona finished the three-kilometer course in fifth place at 12:42.7. Freshman Lauren Cole and junior Mia Kaplan finished seventh and eighth respectively.
On the men's side, the Quakers placed third as a squad with 55 team points. IU-East won the meet with 32 points while Wilmington College came in third with 48 points.
Individually, senior Gabriel Penk placed second, running the five-kilometer course in 16:41.1, less than five seconds behind the winner from IU-East. Freshman Oliver Daniel (17:35.8) and sophomore Daniel Kibet (17:35.8) finished in a tie for seventh place.
Earlham has a week off to prepare for the Indiana Intercollegiate meet on Friday Sept. 16 in Bloomington.
