NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Both the men's and women's cross country teams at Earlham College have been named All-Academic teams by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
For a team to be considered for this distinction, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale.
The women's team finished with a 3.76 GPA, the third highest in all of NCAA Division III. Only Greenville College (3.84) and Elms College (3.78) finished with higher GPA's than the Quakers.
The men's team finished with a 3.40 team GPA, finishing in the top half of the 173 Division III men's teams that were honored.
In addition to the team awards, senior Gabriel Penk earned All-Academic mention for having a 3.40 cumulative GPA. Penk garnered All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) honors in cross country.
Under the direction of first-year co-head coaches Rob and Claire Hewitt, Earlham finished sixth in both genders at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Cross Country Championships last fall.
