Jim Coulter was named to five all-Hoosier Collegiate Conference squads and earned 11 letters as a member of three athletic teams at Earlham. An outstanding pitcher, he was instrumental in the Quakers’ capturing of the 1955 HCC Baseball Championship. An all-conference honoree in 1954 and 1955, Coulter established the Quakers’ earned-run average record. At the time of his graduation, Coulter ranked second in Earlham men’s basketball career scoring with 1,097 points in 84 consecutive starting assignments. The guard garnered all-HCC awards for the 1953-54 and 1955-56 seasons. In his first year at Earlham, Coulter was one of Earlham’s top five runners as the Quakers won the 1953 HCC cross country title. A year later, he garnered individual all-conference honors. Following his Earlham years, the lifelong educator coached several championship teams at Parker and Anderson Highland high schools in Indiana, and at Westtown and Solebury schools in Pennsylvania. At the time of induction, he lived in New Hope, Pa.
