An outstanding three-sport performer, Rex Anderson was the recipient of the E.P. Trueblood plaque as Earlham’s top athlete of 1942. He earned a total of 10 letters in football, basketball and track, and he served as a captain in each sport. A four-year regular on the gridiron, Rex scored a team-high 50 points and earned first-time All-State honors as quarterback from the Indianapolis Star. He was Earlham’s center on the basketball court and led the Quakers in scoring for three consecutive seasons. His 647 career points were the school record until 1952. An excellent high jumper, long jumper and hurdler, Rex was Earlham’s top scorer in track and field for two years. A life-long educator, Rex Anderson was a teacher, counselor and coach at Howe School in Indianapolis from 1948-78. At the time of induction into the Earlham Athletics Hall of Fame, he was retired and living with his wife Barbara in Punta Gorda, Fla.
