As an athlete in football, basketball, track and baseball, Robert Fowler secured 15 varsity letters. He was a recipient of the “E” blanket in 1954. An outstanding center on Earlham’s basketball teams of 1951-54, he was a captain and second-leading scorer with 247 points as a senior. His 734 career point total was the second-highest total in school history at the time. After graduating from Earlham, Fowler pitched in the Georgia/Florida minor league professional baseball association and played basketball for the Albany Blues, a city-sponsored team that competed in exhibitions and tournaments throughout Georgia during the 1950s and 1960s. During a 33-year career in education, he was head coach of the 1959 Georgia football championship team at Albany High School and served as an administrator in the Dougherty County School System. At time of induction, Fowler was the executive vice president of a school employee credit union and lived with his wife Ida in Albany, Ga.
