Sarah Webster Wheeler was a three-time singles champion of the Women’s Athletic Association (WAA) tennis tournament at Earlham College. A member of the E and EC clubs, she served on the WAA’s executive board during her junior and senior years. Wheeler displayed her versatility by competing in field hockey, basketball and track as well as setting a school record in the baseball throw. After marrying Nelson Wheeler ’38 and raising their four sons, she renewed her love for sports as Director of Athletics at Westtown Friends School for 22 years until retirement in 1978. During that time, Wheeler served as a teacher, coach, advisor and assistant dean while volunteering on countless service committee projects. Also active in the wider community, she was clerk of the West Chester Monthly Meeting.
