The starting shortstop on the Earlham baseball team, Boyce earned the Van Dyke Award in 1963 and 1964. He led his class academically for three years and received top awards in mathematics and liberal arts. Boyce served four years in the school senate and as president during his senior year. A Danforth Scholarship recipient, he earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin. Boyce joined the faculty at Berea College in 1969 and served as Academic Vice President and Provost.
