Troy Gottfried is one of the most decorated cross country and track athletes at Earlham College. Gottfried was a four-year letterwinner in both sports and was a member of the 1995 and 1996 North Coast Athletic Conference cross country championship teams.
 
In cross country, Gottfried was Earlham's Most Outstanding First Year in 1994, All-NCAC 2nd Team in 1994 and 1995. He was an All-NCAC 1st Team performer in 1996 and 1997, while earning Earlham's Most Outstanding Runner award in 1997.
 
On the track, he was a three-time All-NCAC performer in the steeplechase. In 1997, he was the NCAC and the Little State Champion in the Steeplechase, while earning Earlham's Most Outstanding Performer award. Indoors, he was All-NCAC in the 3,000-meter run in 1997.
 
A winner of the George Van Dyke Outstanding Athlete Award in 1998, Gottfried was also the Wendell Stanley Senior Athlete Award Winner that same year.
