William B. Telfair combined excellence in academics and athletics to earn Earlham College’s Outstanding Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. He was a three-time member of the All-Midwest Team as a four-year starter in soccer as well as an all-conference player in volleyball. Telfair played in three national soccer tournaments, including the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championship match in 1965. He was the Most Valuable Player of the NAIA national volleyball tournament as the Quakers captured the 1969 title. Graduating from Earlham with honors in physics, he continued his education to receive master’s and doctoral degrees from Pennsylvania State University. In 1995, he became founder, president and CEO of Irvision, Inc., a medical device company introducing solid-state lasers to ophthalmology for refractive surgery of the cornea.
