RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College sophomore Joey Gerbus was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday, after his performance in Earlham's 3-0 win over Manchester University.
Gerbus threw his second complete game shutout for the 2019 season, giving up only four hits during the matchup. The sophomore dealt out seven strikeouts and gave up just one walk in the nine innings pitched. Gerbus also limited the Spartans to a batting average of .129 and only allowed one runner to advance past second base during the matchup.
This is Gerbus' second HCAC weekly honor this season; he also earned the honor for his April 16 complete game shutout victory over Mount St. Joseph. In the 9-0 win over the Lions, Gerbus dealt out his career high of 11 strikeouts and gave up just three hits.
Earlham baseball finished its 2019 season 16-21 overall and 8-10 in the HCAC.
