DENISON, Ohio -- Denison University scored a single goal early in each half and visiting Earlham College was unable to respond, as the Quakers dropped a 2-0 decision in a North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey matchup on Saturday at Piper Stadium.
Denison outshot Earlham, 15-1, and charted an identical 15-1 advantage in penalty corners. First year goalie Margaret Murphy logged eight saves over 70 minutes in the Earlham cage, while Denison's Teya Adams did not record a single save.
The Big Red's Maya Tumiwa buried a loose rebound just 22 seconds into the game to put Denison up 1-0, a score that held through the remainder of the opening half. Denison doubled its lead less than two minutes into the second stanza, when Charlotte Happel completed a penalty corner play with a shot from the top of the circle.
Earlham completes its first trip around the NCAC loop on Wednesday, Oct. 3, when it travels to Greencastle, Ind., to face DePauw University. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
