EMORY, Va. – Ferrum College scored three first-half goals en route to a 5-0 victory over the Earlham College men's soccer team at Emory & Henry University on Saturday afternoon.
Keith Ricks opened the scoring in the 11th minute off of a pass from Robert Cardoso. Leading 1-0, the Panthers struck for goals in the 25th and 35th minute to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Earlham pushed numbers forward in an attempt to create more offensive opportunities, but Ferrum made the Quakers pay with two more goals in the second half.
The Quakers held a 10-9 edge in shots as well as an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. Derek Thomas, Ferrum's net minder, was up to the task on Saturday, making eight saves to ensure a shutout win. Earlham earned seven corner kicks compared to three for Ferrum.
The Quakers are an even 2-2 on the 2016 campaign and face host Emory & Henry University tomorrow (Sunday) at 11 a.m.
