RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's soccer team hosts Anderson University in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest on homecoming Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Matlack Field.
The Teams: Earlham and Anderson. The Quakers are looking to snap a three-game skid after falling at Defiance College 2-1 on Wednesday. The Ravens are 6-7-0 after opening the conference season with four straight losses.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his second season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015. Scott Fridley is in his 26th season leading the Anderson men's soccer program. The Ravens have won two HCAC titles under his watch.
The Players: Senior Bret Marshall and freshman Micah Roland are the two Quakers who have scored multiple goals this season. Roland put Earlham up 1-0 at Defiance with his third goal of the year on Wednesday. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicola Manni has a 4-2 record as Earlham's goalkeeper. Jacob Pokorski and Cory Baker have combined for half of the Ravens' 20 goals in 2016.
Recent History: Earlham is 1-4-1 against Anderson since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The Quakers did win last year's matchup, a 3-0 triumph at Anderson on Oct. 3.
