RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's soccer team travels to Franklin College for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Franklin. The Quakers are 5-9 overall and 1-5 in HCAC play after falling 2-0 at Hanover College on Wednesday. The Grizzlies are 3-6-4 and 3-1-1 in HCAC play after beating Mt. St. Joseph University 2-0.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his second season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015. Shaun Mahoney enters his 11th season as Franklin College's men's soccer coach.
The Players: Senior Bret Marshall and freshman Micah Roland each have three goals this season for the Quakers. Roland put Earlham up 1-0 at Defiance with his third goal of the year on Wednesday. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicola Manni has a 4-2 record as Earlham's goalkeeper. Luke Oliver paves the way for the Grizzlies with four goals this season.
Recent History: Earlham is 3-1-3 against Franklin since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The Quakers did won last year's matchup, a 1-0 win in a close game at Franklin Oct 31st.
