Men's Tennis Clipped by Springfield 5-4

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Earlham College men's tennis team opened its spring trip with a close 5-4 loss to Springfield College on Monday.

Springfield took two of three doubles flights. Senior Jack Ventura-Cruess and sophomore Vitalii Stadnyk lost for just the second time this season at first doubles. The pair fell to Tanner DeVarennes and Justin Danielewicz 9-8 (7-5). Sophomore Vojisalv Tatarevic and freshman Nicola Manni handled Kyle Beynor and Cameron Grant 8-2 at third doubles. The Pride won second doubles 8-6.

In singles competition, Stadnyk (7-5, 6-2), Tatarevic (6-2, 6-4), and Ventura-Cruess (6-3, 6-2) won first, fifth, and sixth singles flights respectively in straight sets. Unfortunately for the Quakers, Springfield won second, third, and fourth singles to clinch the match.

Earlham stands at 3-5 on the season and returns to action tomorrow (Tuesday) for a 12:30 p.m. match against Hamilton College.
