RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's tennis team concluded non-conference play with an 8-1 win over Marietta College in the home opener for the Quakers on Wednesday.
Senior Jack Ventura-Cruess and sophomore Vitalii Stadnyk improved to 11-3 on the season with an 8-1 win over Drew Stone and Shane Spencer at first doubles. Sophomore Adam Schwartz and freshman Adarsh Singh won 8-1 at second doubles while sophomore Vojislav Tatarevic and freshman Nicola Manni won their seventh third doubles match of the season, 8-3.
Tararevic won his team-high 11th singles match of the season, a 6-0, 6-0 win over Drew Stone at fifth singles. Both Stadnyk and Ventura-Cruess won their ninth singles matches of the season, straight-set victories and first and sixth singles respectively.
Singh needed a second-set tiebreak to win his second singles match over Shane Spencer, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2). Manni defeated Muhammed Kingson 6-4, 6-0 at third singles.
Marietta's lone match victory came at fourth singles as Tanner Sigman edged Schwartz 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (13-11).
Earlham improves to 6-8 on the season and opens Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play against Manchester on Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
