Men's Tennis Opens HCAC Play at Defiance on Wednesday

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's tennis team opens its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) season with a 4:30 match at Defiance College on Wednesday.

The Teams: Earlham and Defiance. The Quakers stand at 6-8 on the season after defeating Marietta 8-1 last Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets are 6-7 overall and 1-2 in HCAC play.

The Coaches: Justin Roe is in his second season as head men's tennis coach at Earlham. He led the Quakers to an 11-10 record last season and a berth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament finals. Tyler Ault is in his first season leading the Defiance tennis program.

The Players: Reigning HCAC Most Valuable Player and Freshman of the Year Vitalii Stadnyk stands at 9-5 at first singles and 11-3 at first doubles, with partner senior Jack Ventura-Cruess. Sophomore Vojislav Tatarevic leads the team with 11 singles victories on the year. James Demeo is 8-5 at first singles for Defiance.

Singles and Doubles Team Stats: Earlham is 44-39 in all singles matches and 25-17 in doubles competitions. Defiance is 35-41 in singles as a team and 19-20 in doubles.

Recent History: Earlham is 6-0 against Defiance since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010-11 season.
