DEFIANCE, Ohio – After four rainouts, the Earlham College men's tennis team played its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) opener at Defiance College, defeating the Yellow Jackets 8-1 on Wednesday.
Senior Jack Ventura-Cruess and sophomore Vitalii Stadnyk improved to 12-3 at first doubles with an 8-3 win over James Demeo and Adam Swisher. Sophomore Vojislav Tatarevic and freshman Nicola Manni also won their doubles match, shutting out Nathan Height and Eline Widman 8-0 at third doubles.
Defiance got its lone match point with an 8-5 win at second doubles.
Earlham won all six singles matches in straight sets.
The Quakers stand at 7-8 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC. Earlham continues action with a pair of matches this weekend, at Franklin on Saturday at home against Transylvania at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
