RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's tennis team continues Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play this weekend with a pair of matches – at Franklin on Saturday at noon and home vs. Transylvania at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The Teams: Earlham, Franklin, and Transylvania. The Quakers are 7-8 on the year and 1-0 in HCAC play after an 8-1 win at Defiance on Wednesday. The Grizzlies are 3-7 overall, but have won their last two HCAC contests. The Pioneers are 2-4 overall, but 2-0 in the HCAC after wins over Defiance and Hanover.
The Coaches: Justin Roe is in his second season as head men's tennis coach at Earlham. He led the Quakers to an 11-10 record last season and a berth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament finals. Rusty Hughes has led the Franklin men's tennis team since 2000. Chuck Brown is in his 16th season leading the Pioneer men's and women's tennis programs. He is an 11-time HCAC Coach of the Year honoree.
The Players: Senior Jack Ventura-Cruess, sophomore Vitalii Stadnyk, and sophomore Vojislav Tatarevic each have double digit singles wins, primarily at sixth, first, and fifth singles respectively. Ventura-Crueess and Stadnyk are 12-3 at first doubles. Alex Hammer leads the Grizzlies with three singles victories while Robert Albrecht has played first singles and doubles for the Pioneers this year.
Singles and Doubles Team Stats: Earlham is 50-39 in singles matches and 27-18 in doubles overall. Franklin is 15-44 in singles competition and 11-19 in doubles. Transylvania is 12-24 in singles matches and 7-11 in doubles matches as a team.
