KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Rain forced much of the play indoors at the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Men's Championships hosted by Kalamazoo College on Friday.
Earlham College junior Vitalii Stadnyk, seeded No. 9 in singles, opened the tournament with a 6-1, 6-0 routine victory over Abraham Davis of Oberlin College. In the second round, Stadnyk faced off against unseeded Jai Redkar of Allegheny College 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore Adarsh Singh lost 6-4, 6-1 to Daniel Henry of Kalamazoo, but rebounded to win his back draw match. Similar to Singh, freshman Fernando Bulnes Aramburu dropped a tight match to No. 17 Patrick Farrell of DePauw University 7-5, 6-4 in the opening round, but responded with a back draw victory.
Stadnyk and Bulnes Aramburu teamed up for doubles play and, as the No 9 seed, defeated Ronald Griffin and Landon Walker of Monmouth College 8-5 in the opening round.
The Quakers doubles team will face Jeremy Bush and Jonathan Kroof of Washington University in St Louis tomorrow (Saturday) at 8 a.m.
