RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's tennis team opens its non-traditional season with a 4 p.m. match against Miami University Middletown this Friday. First serve is slated for 4:30 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Miami University Middletown. The Quakers posted an 18-7 record last season and will look to improve on that this season. The ThunderHawks opened their season this past Saturday with a 1-8 loss to Indiana University East.
The Coaches: Shawn Hyden is in his second season as head men's tennis coach at Earlham. In his first season with the program, Hyden led the Quakers to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament finals for the first time since the 2014-2015 season. Canee Uribe has been the men's tennis coach at Miami University Middletown for the last 15 seasons.
The Players: Senior Vitalii Stadnyk of Earlham College posted a record of 18-4 last season in singles and is just 20 wins shy of breaking the all-time school record for singles victories. Stadnyk was named the HCAC Most Valuable Player for the third consecutive year. Other Quakers joining him in earning First Team All-HCAC honors are sophomores Aleksandr Sergeev and Fernando Bulnes Aramburu and senior Vojislav Tatarevic. Miami Middletown is led by lone senior Cooper Nolte.
Recent History: This is the first time in recent history that these teams have met.
