ORLANDO, Fla. – Earlham College men's tennis improved to 4-0 on its Florida spring break trip with a pair of victories on Wednesday at the USTA National Campus. The Quakers began the day with a 9-0 whitewash of McDaniel College, and followed up with a 5-4 triumph over Nichols College.
The Quakers won all six singles matches over McDaniel in straight sets, with Nicola Manni going to a second-set tiebreaker before prevailing at no. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Earlham opened the match with a 3-0 ledger in doubles play, with the Green Terror winning just three games across the three matches.
Earlham faced a tougher challenge from Nichols College, who took two of the three doubles matches to open play. Vitalii Stadnyk and Vojislav Tatarevic combined to post a victory at no. 1 doubles, 8-6.
The Quakers rallied to win four of the six singles matches, including two that required a super-tiebreaker set to produce a winner.
Earlham men's tennis is idle from competition on Thursday, before concluding the Florida trip on Friday with matches against Daemen College and North Central College (Ill.).
