RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's tennis team evened its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record at 1-1 with a 7-2 victory over visiting Hanover College, on Wednesday afternoon at the EC Tennis Courts.
AGAINST THE PANTHERS
Earlham took a sweep of the three points out of doubles, including an 8-0 shutout at no. 1 doubles by Aitor Zerdilas-Herrera and Aleksandr Sergeev. The tandems of Joaquin Lerner and Jason Lawson (no. 2 doubles) and Nicola Manni and Nikolaos Trikkas-Psomas (no. 3 doubles) also notched wins in the doubles phase.
Zerdilas-Herrera completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Hanover's Pablo Gallart Polo at no. 1 singles, while Manni (no. 4 singles) and Lawson (no. 5 singles) also recorded lopsided straight-set victories. Trikkas-Psomas required a little more effort before disposing of Keith Asplund at no. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7).
Earlham improved its overall record to 8-7, 1-1 in HCAC play. Hanover tumbled to 2-6 overall, 0-1 in the HCAC.
The Quakers travel to Manchester, Ind., to face Manchester University on Saturday, Aug. 6, in an HCAC match. Start time is 12:00 p.m.
