RICHMOND, Ind. – For the second time this season, Earlham College first-year Aitor Zerdilas-Herrera was recognized for his perfect week on the courts with Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, for the week ending April 28, 2019.
Zerdilas-Herrera went 6-0 over his singles and doubles matches while leading Earlham men's tennis to an undefeated 3-0 week.
In singles play, he went 3-0 at no. 1 singles with victories over Transylvania and Franklin, and a non-conference win over Holy Cross College. Zerdilas-Herrera repeated the feat in doubles play, where he teamed up with Nikolaos Trikkas-Psomas at no. 1 doubles for victories over Transylvania and Franklin, and then paired with Aleksandr Sergeev for a no. 1 doubles win against Holy Cross.
For the season, Zerdilas-Herrera is 17-8 in singles play with a 5-1 mark in HCAC singles matches, and 18-8/5-1 HCAC in doubles play.
The award is the second this season for Zerdilas-Herrera, and the third captured by an Earlham men's tennis player. Zerdilas-Herrera previously received the honor on April 9, 2019, while Nikolaos Trikkos-Psomas was the recipient on April 23.
Earlham men's tennis currently holds a 16-7 overall record, with a 7-1 mark in the HCAC. The Quakers, who have won their last nine matches, earned the no. 2 seed for this weekend's HCAC Men's Tennis Tournament at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
