Earlham men’s track opens indoor season at UIndy meet

INDIANAPOLIS – The Earlham College men's track and field opened up its 2018-19 indoor campaign with a handful of performances that topped the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference performance list at Saturday's University of Indianapolis Season Opener meet, held at the UIndy Athletics & Recreation Center.

Earlham was joined by HCAC rivals Anderson and Transylvania at the UIndy meet, which is the Quakers' only scheduled pre-holiday break competition.

- Sophomore Nate Papachristos placed second (2:03.15) in the 800m run, setting an early benchmark in the HCAC this season. Israel Ramos was 12th (2:11.93) in the event.

- Sophomore Noah Scherf posted a third-place (4:41.82) showing in the mile run.

- Junior Riley Green was fifth (9:39.55) in the 3000m.

- Earlham's "A" squad of Ian Shriner, Nate Papachristos, Emanuel Faria, and Michael Grady was third (3:34.76) in the 4 x 400m relay.

- Sophomore Drew Fitzgibbon's 17th-place (24.14) result was Earlham's top showing in the 200m dash finals. Faria was 24th (24.38) while freshman Jake Patton was 25th (24.39).

- Faria was the top Earlham performer in the 400m, posting a time of 52.71 in his heat to also set the HCAC benchmark following the season's first meet.

Earlham's indoor track and field slate continues on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, when the Quakers travel to Wooster, Ohio, for the College of Wooster Invitational.
