RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College sophomore Austin Burt has been tabbed as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending October 6, 2019, following his record-setting performance over the weekend.
Burt clocked a time of 25:25.8 in the Silver 8K race at Saturday's "Live In Lou" Louisville Cross Country Classic, placing 53rd in a field of 276 runners. He shaved nearly 70 seconds off his previous personal best collegiate time at the 8K distance.
Burt's time is also believed to be a new Earlham men's cross country record at the 8K distance. The best previous time found was 25:39 posted back in 1996.
This marks the second time Burt has captured HCAC Runner of the Week honors in 2019. He previously won the honor back on September 3, 2019, following his fourth-place finish at the Wilmington College Quaker Challenge.
Earlham men's cross country is off this weekend, but returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when it competes at the Oberlin Inter-Region Rumble.
