GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has named the Earlham College women's lacrosse team as a 2019 Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad.
Earlham was one of 312 institutions in NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA to earn this honor awarded to women's lacrosse teams that posted a 3.0 or higher GPA for the 2018-19 academic year. Earlham was the only college in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) to garner the award.
"Our program always puts academics first, so it's awesome to see the success of our entire team in the classroom," says Lindsey Grundfast, Earlham head women's lacrosse coach. "Being able to achieve a team GPA of 3.62 is an incredible achievement, and we are excited to continue this success in the future."
Along with the team honor came individual honors for senior Raven Thibodeaux (Anchorage, Alaska/Anchorage Christian) and junior Yousra Manar (Rabat, Morocco/Descartes). Each qualified for the 2019 Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll. Thibodeaux, an African and African American studies major graduated with a cumulative 3.59 GPA. Manar, a Global Management major, achieved a cumulative 3.82 GPA.
The IWLCA honored 652 student-athletes from 172 different institutions. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
The two awards winners helped lead the Quakers to an 11-6 overall record with a 5-1 mark in HCLC play.
