RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College women's tennis team was defeated by the Grizzlies of Franklin College 8-1 this Saturday. he Quakers are now 5-5 overall and 1-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play, while Franklin advances to 9-1 and a perfect 5-0 in the HCAC.
The Quakers fell behind early in all three doubles matches and could not overcome the deficit. Seniors Kaitlin Morgan and Lexi Aligarbes lost 8-0 at first doubles. Senior Arrita Domi and freshman Kathryn Hulleman fell 8-1 at third doubles. Late in the match, junior Yunjoo Shin and freshman Alexandra Canaday led 5-4 at second doubles, but the Grizzly team of Megan Battles and Lilly Bushong rallied and won the next four games, taking the match 8-5.
In singles, Shin continued her winning ways, defeating Franklin's Alexa Shofner 6-0, 6-1 at third singles. Canaday jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 6-1, however she could not hold on. She lost the second set and fell 10-7 in the third set super tiebreaker. No other singles match won a set.
The Quakers will return to HCAC play this Monday against Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
