RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College sophomore Ellie Haland (Afton, Minn./Math and Science Academy) earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday, following her performance at last weekend's Washington & Lee University Carnival.
Haland won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:45.55, good enough to be ranked fourth among NCAA Division III times in that event. In the 1500m, Haland finished second with a time of 4:47.18 – a time ranked eighth in the NCAA D-III performance lists. Her 1500m time also set a new Earlham record, breaking a mark that had stood since 1981.
Haland also ran the lead leg for Earlham's 4 x 400m relay team, which finished fourth with a time of 4:12.26 – a time ranked 18th among NCAA D-III performance leaders.
The HCAC weekly award is the second of Haland's career; she won HCAC Track Athlete of the Week honors on February 4, 2019, during the Quakers' indoor track season.
The Earlham men's and women's track and field teams are idle from competition this weekend, and return to the track on Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30, when they compete at the Washington University (Mo.) Distance Carnival and the Otterbein Invitational.
