RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College volleyball team returns to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Wednesday when the Quakers travel to league-leading Hanover College for 7 p.m. match.
The Teams: Earlham and Hanover. The Quakers are 14-9 overall and looking to snap a 3-match losing streak after falling to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in five sets on Monday. The Pomeroys are 8-11 and have lost their last four matches. The Panthers are 19-5 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play.
The Coaches: Lauren Horton enters her fourth year at Earlham and third season leading the volleyball program. The IU-East alumna was a four-year starting setter for the Red Wolves and a three-time All-American. She holds the distinction of being the NAIA's all-time assists leader for the rally-scoring era. Peter Preocanin has been Hanover's head volleyball coach since the 2000 season.
The Players: Junior Ashleigh Burton and Julia Stewart both average 3.50 kills per set to lead the Quakers' offense. Along with freshman Carly Federinko, the three all have over 200 kills and provide 68 percent of Earlham's offense. Sophomore Setter Lauren Jackson dishes out over 10 assists per set while junior libero Megan Hedinger notches over five digs per set. Margo Main and Kristin Goben are Hanover's top offensive threats and both have tallied over 200 kills this season
Recent History: Earlham is 0-7 against Hanover since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The Panthers have swept the Quakers in the last six matches.
NCAA Statistics Leader: Setter Lauren Jackson in 27th in all of NCAA Division III volleyball in assists pet set at 10.10.
Record Start: Earlham is off to a 14-9 start to the season, the program's best since the 2007. The Quakers have not won 15 games since the 1992 campaign.
