RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College volleyball senior Ashleigh Burton averaged 3.27 kills per set while leading the Quakers to a 3-1 mark in the first weekend of competition, and was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, for the week ending September 2, 2018.
Burton tallied 49 kills over four matches with a .416 hitting percentage.
Her best individual effort was a 15-kill performance on 30 attacks with six errors (.300) in Earlham's 3-1 loss to Kenyon College in Friday's opening match. In Friday's follow-up match versus Emory & Henry, Burton charted 12 terminations on 19 attacks with one error (.579) with one block solo and two block assists.
Burton saved her most efficient performance of the weekend for Saturday's first match, when she logged 11 kills on 12 attacks with no errors in Earlham's 3-0 rout over Franciscan (Ohio). She wrapped up the weekend with 11 kills in a five-set victory over West Virginia Tech.
This is Burton's second HCAC weekly honor of her career. She previously earned Offensive Player of the Week honors as a junior on October 2, 2017.
Earlham volleyball returns to action on Tuesday evening when the Quakers face capital university in a non-conference road match. Match start time is 7:00 p.m.
