LEXINGTON, Ky. - Women's volleyball falls in three sets to the Transylvania Pioneers
The Pioneers played well on all phases of the ball.
Earlham's defense had trouble keeping up with all of the weapons Transylvania had offensively. Three different Pioneers had double digit kills. In the first and second set, Transylvania has kill percentages of .444 and .517 respectively.
Defensively, Transylvania's back row saved some hard hit balls by the Quaker offense. The highest kill percentage the Quakers could manage was .162 in the third set. The Pioneers earned 51 digs through the match compared to Earlham's 38. Transylvania also managed to earn six blocks.
In addition, the Pioneers had six service aces. Earlham was not able to come down with any service aces.
Each set ended 16-25, 12-25 and 21-25 in favor of Transylvania. In the third set, Earlham was on pace to make a miraculous comeback after being down nine points, and ended up only losing by three.
Earlham is now 2-2 in HCAC play. Their next competition will be a double header at home on Friday, October 12. Their first match will be a HCAC matchup against Mount St. Joe at 1:00pm.
