RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College outside hitter Caroline Mulvihill tallied 86 kills with 40 digs while earning All-Tournament honors and leading the Quakers to a 3-0 week, and was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 22, 2019.
Mulvihill, a sophomore from Monrovia, California, averaged 5.73 kills per set while hitting .299 over 15 sets in three matches, leading Earlham to three victories at the Illinois Wesleyan University Holiday Inn Express Classic II Tournament in Bloomington, Illinois.
Mulvihill recorded a career-best 32 kills with a .316 hitting percentage in a win over Luther College (3-2) on Friday to open the tournament, while also recording 17 digs. On Saturday, Caroline charted 27 kills in a win over host Illinois Wesleyan (3-2) with 15 digs, two block solos, and one block assist. She followed up with another 27-kill performance in a victory over Lakeland College (3-2). Following the weekend, Caroline is third in the HCAC with 3.55 kills per set, and tied for second in total kills with 174.
The HCAC weekly award is the first of Mulvihill's collegiate career, and marks the second straight week an Earlham pin hitter has been tabbed as the HCAC Offensive Player of the Week. Sophomore Sarah Dickman received the award on September 16, 2019.
At the midpoint to the 2019 season, Earlham volleyball holds a 9-4 overall record. The Quakers have three matches on their docket for this week: a road match on Thursday, Sept. 26, at Ohio Northern, followed by a tri-match with Waynesburg University and Thiel College on Saturday, Sept. 28.
