RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College women's cross country team opens its 2017 season at the Red Wolf Rumble hosted by Indiana University East (IU East) on Friday.
The Meet: The 3-kilometer race will take place at the IU East cross country course and begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. Cincinnati Christian will join Earlham and IU East at the meet.
The Coaches: Claire and Rob Hewitt both enter their second seasons at co-head cross country coaches at Earlham. Last season, the Hewitt's led the Quakers to a sixth-place finish in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) conference. Prior to coming to Earlham, Claire worked at the University of Pennsylvania as an assistant women's cross country coach while Rob had been a high school cross country and track & field coach at national powerhouse Germantown Friends High School (Pennsylvania) since 2004.
The Players: Junior Rachel Wilkins highlights the returners as she earned All-HCAC honors with a ninth-place finish at the HCAC Championships last fall. Wilkins ran the 6-kilometer race in 25:11.21. Senior Mia Kaplan placed 26th in the race with a time of 27:03.44.
Looking to Repeat: The Quakers won the 2016 Red Wolf Rumble with a team score of 25 points, beating the second-place hosts by 19 points. Wilkins finished runner-up in the 3-kilometer race with a time of 12:11.30.
