DECATUR, Ill. – Earlham College sophomore Ana Sosa-Ebert crossed the finish line in fifth place and took third in the points to lead the Quaker women's cross country team to a fifth place finish out of nine teams at the H.W. Wright Classic 6K, Friday evening at Millikin University.
Sosa-Ebert posted a time of 23:29 to finish fifth among all competitors, but two runners ahead of her were not competing as part of teams giving Sosa-Ebert the third place points.
First year Remy Haggerty was the only other Earlham runner among the top 20, taking sixth place points with a time of 24:28.
Mairead Blatner and Gabrielle Abrahms were 32nd and 33rd respectively in the points with times of 26:10 and 26:33, while Sophie Pickering rounded out the scoring runners for the Maroon and White with a time of 27:49.
Miette Hennesey (42nd, 29:25) and Krishna Cousins (46th, 29:57) were the nos. 6 and 7 runners for Earlham.
Earlham logged 114 points in the meet to finish fifth in the team standings. Rose-Hulman won the meet with 57 points, narrowly edging Millikin with 58 points. William Woods was not far out of contention with 67 points, while Saint Mary-of-the-Woods was fourth with 93 points.
Rose-Hulman's Mary Peterson crossed the finish line first out of 85 competitors with a time of 22:37.5.
Earlham cross country is idle next week, and returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13, when it travels to Oberlin College to compete in the InterRegional Rumble.
